Drain Smart Central Arkansas (“Drain Smart”) is issuing a 2016 “Call for Artists” and seeking sponsorships for its program.
Drain Smart is sponsored by Audubon Arkansas and was initiated last year as a:
… public art and environmental education program that uses semi-permanent murals to communicate the link between street litter, storm drains, and water quality.
Drain Smart’s objective is to “make people think twice before disposing of anything down a storm drain.”
Drain Smart’s Call for Artists notes that Little Rock’s municipal storm drains are like most cities in the United States. They flow directly to streams, rivers and lakes, therefore, resulting in the movement of various debris, materials and litter into waterways filters. The program attempts to raise awareness of the function of storm drains and their link to water quality and the environment.
The 2016 Call for Artists is seeking submission of designs that would incorporate the message “Drains to Fourche Creek” or “Drains to Arkansas River” depending on the location of the assigned drain or another applicable water preservation message. The designs are incorporated into storm drain structures and include storm drain physical components in the conceptual drawing. Designs can be based on a specific drain location or a more general design applicable to any storm drain.
Submissions must be received by March 15th.
Drain Smart is also seeking sponsorships at varying levels in support of the program.
