LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Aug. 21, 2015) – Lyn Pruitt, partner at Mitchell, Williams, Selig, Gates & Woodyard, P.L.L.C. in Little Rock, Ark., was recently named director of the International Association of Defense Counsel’s 2017 Trial Academy, one of the country’s oldest and most respected programs for developing defense trial advocacy skills.
The Trial Academy is put on by the International Association of Defense Counsel, which is an invitation only organization whose members are, “a powerful and select group with advanced skills in defense law.” As director of the 2017 Trial Academy, Pruitt will plan and execute the 2017 Trial Academy, which will be in its 45th year.
The Trial Academy was initiated by the association in 1973 and is currently being held at Stanford Law School. The director and faculty members are comprised of top defense trial attorneys from across the country.
Lyn Pruitt joined Mitchell Williams in 1986 and has been a member since 1990. Pruitt focuses her practice on litigation and has built a reputation as one of the country’s most talented and respected litigators. She has focused her practice on products cases, consumer class actions and toxic tort matters with particular emphasis in drug and medical device cases. She has also successfully defended in some of the most critical product liability litigation in recent memory and has tried over 60 jury trial cases to verdict.
Pruitt has served as liaison counsel and trial counsel for national hormone therapy litigation and lead trial counsel for numerous pharmaceutical and medical device companies. She has served as lead trial counsel in national statin litigation, co-lead trial counsel on a number of national trial teams in pharmaceutical and medical device cases, and lead counsel in products cases. Pruitt has acted as lead trial counsel in numerous class action cases, including both state and proposed national classes, involving class awards valued from $10 million to $500 million dollars.
Pruitt graduated summa cum laude from Ouachita Baptist University before graduating from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock School of Law with honors. She is a Fellow of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America and a member of IADC. She is also a member of the Defense Research Institute and its Drug and Medical Device Committee, the American Bar Association and its Tort and Insurance Practice Section and the Arkansas Bar Association. She has been recognized with a variety of honors and awards throughout her career, including being ranked by Chambers and Partners USA for Medical Malpractice Defense in Arkansas and being named in publications including; Super Lawyers Corporate Counsel Edition, Mid-South Super Lawyers and The Best Lawyers in America.
