LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Mitchell, Williams, Selig, Gates and Woodyard, P.L.L.C. Member Lyn Pruitt will lead one of the country's oldest and most respected programs for developing defense trial advocacy skills later this week.
Pruitt is director of the International Association of Defense Counsel’s 2017 Trial Academy, a program of the International Association of Defense Counsel that attracts top defense attorneys from across the country. In addition to Pruitt directing the program, Mitchell Williams Member Michelle Browning will serve on the faculty of the Trial Academy and Member Megan Hargraves will attend as a participant.
Pruitt will be director of the 45th annual academy, which will be held Friday through Aug. 4 at Stanford Law School in Palo Alto, California. As director, Pruitt has planned and will execute the 2017 Trial Academy.
Pruitt joined Mitchell Williams in 1986. Her practice focus is litigation and she has built a reputation as one of the country’s most talented and respected litigators. She has amassed a broad range of experience from products cases, consumer class actions and toxic tort matters with particular emphasis in drug and medical device cases.
Pruitt is a Fellow of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, the American College of Trial Lawyers, the Litigation Counsel of America and a member of IADC. She is also a member of the Defense Research Institute and its Drug and Medical Device Committee, the American Bar Association and its Tort and Insurance Practice Section and the Arkansas Bar Association. Pruitt was one of ten lawyers named the Best Lawyers 2013 Lawyer of the Year in Mass Tort/Class Action and Product Liability Litigation. She has been recognized with honors and awards throughout her career, including being ranked by Chambers and Partners USA for Medical Malpractice Defense in Arkansas and being named in publications including; Super Lawyers Corporate Counsel Edition, Mid-South Super Lawyers and The Best Lawyers in America.
As a faculty member, Michelle Browning will conduct courses during the seven-day intensive training session. Browning is a trial lawyer with nearly two decades of litigation experience. Her current trial practice is primarily focused on the defense of health care providers, pharmaceutical companies and medical device companies in a wide range of complex medical litigation. Browning is certified in health care compliance (CHC)® by the Compliance Certification Board (CCB)®, illustrating her expertise in advising major healthcare systems in enterprise risk management and regulatory compliance. She has been recognized by Super Lawyers, Mid-South Super Lawyers, Chambers and Partners USA and The Best Lawyers in America. She is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, Litigation Counsel of America, American Health Lawyers Association and a founding member of the Arkansas Society for Healthcare Risk Management.
Megan Hargraves is a member of the litigation team and currently practices in the areas of medical malpractice, products liability and general insurance defense. She regularly represents clients, including physicians, nurses, and hospitals throughout Arkansas, in all stages of the litigation process, including motion practice, discovery, expert workup, trial preparation and trial and appellate practice. Hargraves is a member of the American, Arkansas and Pulaski County Bar Associations, the Arkansas Association of Women Lawyers, the Defense Research Institute and the Professional Liability Defense Federation. She is an Associate in the William Overton Inn of Court and served in the Women’s Foundation of Arkansas Emerging Leaders Program.
The International Association of Defense Counsel is an invitation-only organization whose members are, “a powerful and select group with advanced skills in defense law.” The Trial Academy was started in 1973.
