The United States Army Corps of Engineers (Vicksburg District) (“Corps”) issued a February 18th Public Notice referencing an application by Mr. David Vondran (“Applicant”) for a Clean Water Act Section 404 permit to discharge dredged or fill material into waters of the United States.
The Public Notice states that the Applicant is proposing to widen Alcoa Road from a two-lane to a four-lane roadway with a raised median in Saline County, Arkansas.
The proposed project is stated to be approximately 1.6 miles in length and would extend from Benton Parkway to Alcoa Road and Interstate 30. The objective of the proposed project is to accommodate and increase future traffic volumes and improve safety for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.
1.64 acres of jurisdictional wetlands and 977 linear feet of a jurisdictional stream are predicted to be impacted. Further, approximately 73,463 cubic yards of compacted embankment would be placed in the jurisdictional areas.
The Applicant states that mitigation for the unavoidable loss of jurisdictional impacts will be undertaken through use of a mitigation bank.
