Mitchell Williams Announces Attorney Jay Thompson Joins Firm Expanding Insurance Regulatory Practice

(AUSTIN, Tex.) – Mitchell, Williams, Selig, Gates & Woodyard, P.L.L.C., a full-service law firm with offices in Arkansas and Texas, is pleased to announce Attorney Jay A. Thompson has joined the firm’s insurance regulatory practice in Austin.

Jay has extensive experience in both regulatory and legislative issues involving the business of insurance. He regularly participates in regulatory proceedings involving contested case hearings, contested rate hearings, policy form approvals, rulemaking, licensing, mergers, acquisition, and dissolution of insurance companies and other regulatory matters before the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI).

As a registered lobbyist, Jay represents the property and casualty and life, accident and health insurance industry on legislative issues impacting those insurers. He has worked closely with leadership in Texas to find constructive solutions to legislative issues. Jay has written numerous bills and amendments to the Texas Insurance Code and has been recognized as a leading expert on insurance regulation.

Jay has served as  general counsel for the Texas Association of Life and Health Insurers (TALHI) since its inception in 1997. He is active with the Insurance Council of Texas and was awarded the organization's Raymond Mauk Leadership Award. He is also a member of the Federation of Regulatory Counsel (FORC). 

He earned a Juris Doctor from The University of Texas School of Law and a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting from Texas Tech University.
