ROGERS - Every business with an online presence is a target for hackers, but business owners can take steps to protect against cyberattacks and the significant costs associated with them. The Arkansas Better Business Bureau, in partnership with Mitchell, Williams, Selig, Gates & Woodyard, P.L.L.C, and others, is helping business owners learn how to secure their businesses in the digital age, hosting a free Cybersecurity Summit on Thursday, April 5.
The Arkansas Better Business Bureau Cybersecurity Summit will be held from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on April 5 at The Record, 104 SW A St., in Bentonville. The event is free.
“Though large-scale cyberattacks on major corporations generate the most attention, small businesses are especially vulnerable to criminals who would seek out sensitive financial information and customer data,” said Janet Robb, president and CEO of the Arkansas Better Business Bureau. “One study found the average cost for a small business following a cyberattack is $36,000. We are hopeful that, at our free summit, business owners will learn strategies to avoid such attacks and the expenses that follow.”
Robb is one of several experts slated to discuss how to keep businesses safe from online attackers. She will talk about available resources for businesses. Other speakers include:
-
Anton Janik and Ben Jackson of Mitchell Williams law firm on the legal ramifications of a data breach
-
Jennifer Samuel, insurance agent with The Hatcher Agency who will speak on cybersecurity insurance
-
Jeremy Ausburn and Keith Woodruff of Edafio Technology Partners who will speak technology to secure a small business
-
Aaron Sadler and Sandra McGrew of Ghidotti Communications who will speak on communicating when an ‘Equifax’ happens.’
Advance registration is required for the free event. RSVP at mglancy@arkansas.bbb.org or by calling (501) 665-4888, extension 109. The deadline for registering is Monday, April 2.
