Discussed Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) Compliance and How to Manage Abuse

Mitchell, Williams, Selig, Gates and Woodyard, P.L.L.C. attorney Nathan A. Read was the featured speaker at the Human Resource Management Association of Arkansas monthly meeting in Little Rock today. The event was held at Next Level Events and was attended by HRMA members, guests, and students.
Read’s presented an update on Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) compliance and managing abuse, discussing employer rights when FMLA abuse is suspected. He addressed the complexities of intermittent leave law, reviewed the process of conducting an investigation to determine if abuse occurred and outlined steps for a self-audit of the FMLA process. He also presented recent court cases and decisions in FMLA.
Read has extensive experience representing employers in all matters of labor and employment law with a focus on employment counseling and employment litigation. He advises businesses, executives and management in developing personnel policies, personnel procedures and employment handbooks. He also counsels clients in matters of drafting and enforcement of employment, confidentiality, restrictive covenant and severance agreements. Read represents individuals and companies in various contract disputes and business tort litigation, including intellectual property disputes and unfair competition claims and counsels clients on matters such as obligations under the state and federal statutes to specific contractual duties.
