(LITTLE ROCK, Ark.) – Mitchell, Williams, Selig, Gates & Woodyard, P.L.L.C. is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Attorney Nick Thompson on Saturday, March 31.
Managing Director Jeff Thomas said, "Nick Thompson was a key contributor to the growth of our firm and our insurance regulatory practice. He served our firm in several leadership roles including our Board of Directors and he was responsible for building our firm’s government relations practice. Nick was a great friend, and he will be greatly missed. We extend our deepest sympathies to Mary, Paige, C.J. and Nick’s entire family."
In 1989, following his work at the Arkansas Insurance Department and in private practice, Nick was invited to join Mitchell Williams as partner and work in the insurance regulatory practice led by former Arkansas Insurance Commissioner Bill Woodyard. After 20 years with Mitchell Williams, Nick joined UnitedHealth Group as Senior Vice-President of Regulatory Affairs. In 2021, Nick rejoined Mitchell Williams in the Of Counsel role with the insurance regulatory practice.
Nick was born December 16, 1954, in Memphis, Tennessee. He graduated from Marked Tree High School. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of Arkansas and a Juris Doctor from the University of Arkansas School of Law where he served as president of the Student Bar Association.
Nick is survived by his wife Mary, his children Paige Skelton (Will), granddaughter Emma and son Charles Nicholas Thompson, Junior (C.J.) He is also survived by his brothers Bill Thompson (Marianne), Mike Thompson (Pam), and sister Nancy Herdlinger (David) and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 5 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Ruebel Funeral Home, 6313 W. Markham Street, Little Rock, Ark. On Saturday, April 6, a burial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Pinecrest Cemetery, 7401 AR-5 (west off Stagecoach Rd.) Alexander, Ark., followed by a Celebration of Life at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 723 Center Street, downtown Little Rock.
