The South-Central Chapter of the Society of Wetland Scientists (“Society”) has announced a 2022 NWA Wetland Ecology Tour (“Tour”).
The Tour will be held on Saturday, September 24th, from 8:30-12:00 at Wilson Springs Preserve (“Preserve”) in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
The Society announcement describes Wilson Springs Preserve as a 121-acre wet prairie remnant located in Fayetteville. It is further described as Fayetteville’s largest permanently protected wetland and a:
. . . rich matrix of habitats including, streams, wetlands, tallgrass prairie, and oak savannah.
The Preserve is stated to be home to more than 300 different plant species and 180 different species of birds. These include several species of concern including the Arkansas snail darter.
Hikes will be led by experts in the following areas:
- Botany
- Ornithology
- Herpetology
- Aquatic ecology
The Society states coffee and doughnuts will be provided, and door prizes will be given away.
Proceeds benefit the Society and the Northwest Arkansas Land Trust.
