The United States Energy Administration (“EIA”) issued a June 26th report noting that for the first time United States monthly electricity generation from renewable sources exceeded coal-fired generation.
The data originates from EIA’s publication Electric Power Monthly.
EIA notes the following percentages for April:
- Renewable Sources – 23%
- Coal – 20%
Describing the results, EIA notes:
This outcome reflects both seasonal factors as well as long-term increases in renewable generation and decreases in coal generation.
Renewable electricity generation is characterized as including utility-scale:
- Hydropower
- Wind
- Solar
- Geothermal
- Biomass
