The Arkansas Abandoned Pesticide Advisory Board (“Board”) is scheduled to meet on June 8th.
The meeting will be held in the board room at the Arkansas Department of Agriculture which is located at 1 Natural Resources Drive.
The Arkansas Department of Agriculture describes the Arkansas Abandoned Pesticide program as a method for farmers to safety and properly dispose of old or unwanted pesticides. State statutory authority for the Board is found in Ark. Code Ann. § 8-7-1204.
The Board consists of six members which include:
- Representative from the Arkansas Farm Bureau Federation
- Representative from the Arkansas Natural Resources Commission
- Representative from the University Cooperative Extension Service
- Representative from the Arkansas Department of Energy and Environment – Division of Environmental Quality
- Representative from the United States Natural Resources Conservation Service
- Representative from the Arkansas Department of Agriculture
The Board selects 10 counties per year with the goal of holding at least one pesticide collection event in every county in Arkansas.
The June 8th agenda references a discussion of Act 364 (Abandoned Pesticide Disposal Act) which was enacted in the recently concluded 93rd Arkansas General Assembly.
