Metroplan announced on January 13th that it has named Brittany Nichols as their new Sustainable Transportation & Energy Ambassador for Central Arkansas.
Ms. Nichols’ focus is stated to be on assisting local governments in implementing projects funded by the Climate Pollution Reduction Grants (“CPRG”) that:
…protect and restore natural areas, reduce vehicle emissions, increase energy efficiency, and improve access to walking, biking, and public transit.
This new position is stated to be funded through the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s (“EPA”) CPRG that Metroplan received in 2024.
Metroplan has served since 1972 as Central Arkansas’ federally designated metropolitan planning organization. The organization’s function is stated to include work with local governments, the state Department of Transportation, and local transit providers to determine transportation need and funding priorities for federal transportation investments. Additional activities include providing general planning, mapping, and technical assistance to local governments.
Ms. Nichols previously served as the City of Little Rock, Arkansas’ Parks & Recreation Marketing and Media Coordinator. Prior to this, she served as the City’s Sustainability Educator. Ms. Nichols received a Bachelor of Professional Studies – Industrial and Organization Psychology from Arkansas Technical University and an Associate of Arts Degree from Pikes Peak State College.
Licenses and certifications include:
- LEP Environmental Educator – the Aldo Leopold Foundation.
- Project WET Certified Educator – Arkansas Environmental Education Association.
