The Arkansas Department of Energy & Environment and Arkansas Department of Agriculture issued a news release announcing the launch of what is denominated the:
Arkansas FireSMART Mobile Application (“App”)
The United States Environmental Protection Agency is stated to have provided funding for the App.
The App is stated to provide row crop producers and forest landowners:
- A simple, easy way to check conditions
- Facilitate reporting of prescribed burns
- Ability to generate real-time weather data to determine if current conditions align with Voluntary Smoke Management Guidelines
Pursuant to the Voluntary Smoke Management Guidelines, producers/landowners report prescribed burns to the Arkansas Department of Agriculture’s Dispatch Center.
The news release describes the benefits of prescribed fire to both row crop producers (i.e., removing stubble following harvesting in an efficient/economical manner) and forest landowners (i.e., providing vegetation control, ecosystem restoration and wildlife habitat improvement).
Instructions for accessing the FireSMART App and additional details about prescribed fire and its benefits can be found in links provided in the news lease.
The news release can be downloaded here.
