The United States Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”) Region 6 Office in Dallas announced it was awarding $388,397 to the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality (“ADEQ”).
EPA states that the funding will support Arkansas programs to manage and reduce hazardous waste.
EPA Regional Administrator Ken McQueen is quoted as stating:
“Controlling hazardous waste is one of the most effective ways to prevent potential problems and protect communities and the environment . . . Arkansas remains a strong partner in carrying out this vital mission.”
The grant is projected to support Arkansas hazardous waste management program activities such as:
- Controlling the generation, transportation, treatment, storage, and disposal of hazardous waste
- Minimizing hazardous waste production
- Protecting public health and the environment from inactive facilities
- Supporting permitting, corrective action, inspections, enforcement, tracking, and pollution-prevention outreach
Arkansas received delegation many years ago of the Federal Resource Conservation and Recovery Act Subtitle C Hazardous Waste Authority.
