The Sierra Club has issued a case study report (“Report”) titled:
Cities Are Ready for 100% Clean Energy
The Report identified 10 United States cities that have made commitments to be powered with 100% renewable energy.
The cities addressed in the Report include:
- Abita Springs, Louisiana
- Atlanta, Georgia
- Boulder, Colorado
- Hanover, New Hampshire
- Madison, Wisconsin
- Portland, Oregon
- Pueblo, Colorado
- Salt Lake City, Utah
- South Lake Tahoe, California
- St. Petersburg, Florida
The Report states that 47 United States cities have committed to transition to 100% renewable energy and five have achieved their power needs with entirely renewable sources.
Included in the Report are descriptions of strategies cities have used to transition to renewable energy. The examples cited are stated to demonstrate the variety of approaches that have been utilized to achieve a 100% renewable goal. Further, it is noted that the United States Conference of Mayors approved a resolution that establishes a goal of 100% renewable energy.
