The California Energy Commission (“CEC”) and Sceptre, Inc. (“SI”) entered into an March 24th Settlement Agreement and Release (“Settlement”) addressing alleged violations of Appliance Efficiency Regulations at California Code of Regulations (“Efficiency Regulations”).
SI is described as a company that distributes and sells computer monitors, televisions, and Bluetooth speakers that it sells or offers for sale in California, either directly or through retailers or distributors.
The referenced computer monitors, televisions, and Bluetooth speakers are stated to be subject to the testing, efficiency, marking, and certification requirements for this appliance class.
The Settlement states that from December 2018 to December 2022, SI sold or offered for sale in California through retailers and distributors computer monitors that did not meet efficiency standards when tested using the appropriate test method and computer monitors, televisions, and Bluetooth speakers that were not listed in MAEDbS.
Both CEC and SI are stated to agree that neither the execution of this documents nor payment of any sum of money shall constitute or be construed as admission of wrongdoing or acceptance of liability by SI.
A civil penalty of $787,743.00 is assessed. Further, the Settlement prescribes certain actions that must be taken for any and all regulated appliances it will sell or offer for sale in California.
