The Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality (“ADEQ”) issued a May 5th news release announcing the winners of the Arkansas Technology Award (“TECHe Award”), the E2 Award, and the ENVY Award.

Goodwill Industries of Arkansas (“Goodwill”) was chosen as the winner of the ENVY Award.
ADEQ states that Goodwill diverts an average of 25 million waste annually from Arkansas landfills. It further notes that the organization reinvests 96% of the revenue generated from the diversion back into communities by providing:
- Education
- Training
- Employment Services
The TECHe Award was given to L’Oréal USA (“L’Oréal”). The agency states that the company’s “Sharing Beauty with All” program “seeks ambitious goals for reducing their environmental impact through the entire life cycle of its products.” L’Oréal’s goals for operation are stated to include a 60% reduction from a 2005 baseline in:
- Water consumption
- Waste generation
- Carbon dioxide emissions by the year 2020
Achievements at the end of 2016 included:
- 82% reduction in water consumption
- 40% reduction in waste
- 76% reduction in CO2
The company’s North Little Rock facility installed a 1.2 megawatt solar array .
Finally, ADEQ notes that Arkansas State University (Jonesboro) was provided the E2 Award. The agency states:
Jonesboro and Johnson Controls signed a $15 million guaranteed energy savings contract through the Arkansas Energy Performance Contracting Program in February 2016.
This contract is stated to provide upgraded:
- Lighting
- Water HVAC
- Energy management systems
Projected savings to ASU are $25 million dollars in utility and operational costs over the next 20 years.
ADEQ Director Becky Keogh announced the winners. The awards were presented by Governor Asa Hutchinson.
