The California State Water Resources Control Board (“Board”) issued a November 9th news release stating that BC Laboratories, Inc. (“BCL”) has been assessed an $18,000 penalty for alleged violations regarding failure to timely notify water systems of exceedances.
BCL is stated to be a Bakersfield, California-based environmental testing laboratory.
The Board’s Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (“ELAP”) is stated to have determined that BCL failed to notify a water system in two instances within 24 hours that certain water samples exceeded maximum contaminant levels. It states that laboratories are required to notify a water system and the State Water Board within 24 hours if acute contaminants exceed the maximum safe level.
The Board states that BCL was assessed an $18,000 penalty. Further, BCL is stated to have paid the citation and indicated it had undertaken the following:
- Corrective action
- Retrained staff
- Conducted an internal audit
