The United States Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”) announced on November 13th new, returning, and existing members of its Farm, Ranch, and Rural Communities Federal Advisory Committee (“Committee”).
EPA describes the Committee as providing:
…independent policy advice and recommendations to the Administrator on crucial environmental issues affecting agriculture and rural communities.
Two Arkansans will be members of the Committee:
- Janie Simms Hipp, , Fayetteville, Arkansas.
- Jennifer James, Newport, Arkansas.
Identified as a new member of the Committee is Ms. Janie Simms Hipp. She is listed as associated with the organization:
- Native Agriculture Financial Services.
Ms. Jennifer James is identified as an existing member of the Committee. Organizations associated with Ms. James include:
- H&J Land & Co.
- Auvergne Grain Co.
EPA states that the selection for new members was initiated in July 2024. The request for nominations is stated to have drawn from more than 80 applicants. The selectees represent 10 EPA Regions and 24 States, Territories, and the District of Columbia. They are stated to have been chosen for their expertise in key EPA priority areas which include:
- Climate change.
- Sustainable agricultural practices.
Further, they are stated to represent a variety of agricultural sectors, rural stakeholders, and diverse geographies.
