The American Water Works Association (“AWWA”) issued a March 23rd news release commenting on certain funding decisions in the recent Congressional enactment of the Omnibus Spending bill.
The AWWA news release commends:
. . . U.S. Congress and the Trump Administration for more than doubling the funding for the Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA) and bolstering the Drinking Water State Loan Fund (DWSRF) through the omnibus spending bill.
The WIFIA is stated to have received funding at $63 million. This constitutes an increase from $30 million in its first year of funding for loans.
In addition, AWWA notes that the DWSRF received $1.16 billion. This funding decision constitutes an increase of $300 million.
The funding for the United States Department of Agriculture’s rural development programs is also referenced. More than $4 billion for the water and wastewater loan and grant programs are stated to have been provided. This constitutes a $2.3 billion increase from last year.
