A report was recently released addressing financing issues associated with electrifying truck and bus fleets titled:
Financing the Transition – Unlocking Capital to electrify Truck and Bus Fleets (“Report”)
The Report was released by:
- Environmental Defense Fund
- M.J. Bradley & Associates
- Vivid Economics
The Report discusses what it describes as a “new generation of finance solutions” that policymakers, fleet owners, utilities and investors can use as a road map to:
- Accelerate demand for electric trucks and buses
- Reduce barriers to investment
By way of background, it is noted that historically government grant programs have assisted fleet owners in replacing diesel trucks on a one-to-one vehicle replacement as opposed to system-wide investments. This is deemed problematic in terms of transformation of this sector.
Topics addressed in the Report include:
- The Market Opportunity for Medium- and Heavy-Duty Electric Fleets
- Total Cost of Electrification: A Barriers Framework
- Developing Solutions to Barriers: The TCE Toolkit
- The TCE Toolkit: Overview of Select Approaches and Tools
- Design Principles for Fleet Electrification Programs
- Collaborative Action to Jumpstart the Transition
A copy of the Report can be downloaded here.
