The Arkansas Oil Marketers Association (“AOMA”) issued a September 6th Breaking News Notice referencing an increase for state gasoline and clear diesel taxes for the period of October 1, 2019 through September 30, 2020.
AOMA notes that in accordance with Act 416 of the recently concluded Arkansas General Assembly the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration has determined the wholesale tax on motor fuel (gasoline) and distillate special fuel (clear diesel) will be $.03 per gallon on wholesale sales of gasoline and $.06 per gallon on wholesale sales of clear diesel fuel.
AOMA’s Notice is a specific reminder for anyone remitting motor fuel taxes in the State of Arkansas. Such entities will be required to collect the new tax starting October 1, 2019.
The Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration previously issued a July 31st letter announcing the increase.
The letter noted that the per gallon wholesale sales tax rates are determined based on the average wholesale selling prices of the fuels during 2018 as published by the Energy Information Administration of the United States Department of Energy for the United States Gulf Coast Region. Detailed information regarding the calculation of these rates is included in the letter.
