Mike Ronnel has been named by the Gulf Coast Chapter of ReMA (formerly Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries) as the 2024 winner of the Proler Award.
Mike is the co-owner of Metal Recycling Corporation in Little Rock, Arkansas.
The Proler Award recognizes individuals for their outstanding leadership, achievements, and contributions to the recycled materials industry.
Previous Proler Award winners from the state of Arkansas include:

ReMA describes itself as the voice of the recycling industry with over 1,300 member companies operating at more than 40,000 locations in the United States and across the globe. Its members include companies that process, broker, and consume metals, paper, plastics, glass, textiles, rubber, and electronics whether sourced from commercial, residential, or industrial operations.
The Gulf Coast Chapter of ReMA includes the following states:
- Arkansas
- Kansas
- Louisiana
- Mississippi
- New Mexico
- Oklahoma
- Texas
The ReMA article describing Mike’s career notes that it encompasses more than 4 decades when he joined the family recycling business after receiving his BBA and MBA degrees from the University of Texas at Austin. Mike, along with his brother and co-owner, Steve Ronnel, operate 2 metal commodity trading companies which include:
- Metal Recycling Corporation in Little Rock.
- Metal Trading Corporation in Little Rock.
They also operate 3 metal recycling facilities:
- Metro Scrap Metals in North Little Rock.
- Thompson Recycling Company in Searcy.
- Alman Recycling Company in Little Rock.
Mike is noted to have served the scrap industry through his work with the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (i.e., now the Recycled Materials Association) as President of the Gulf Coast Chapter from 2001-2003 and previously served on the Gulf Coast Executive Committee and Board of Directors. He has also served on the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries National Board of Directors as a member of various committees.
Mike has also been a longtime and productive member of the Arkansas Recyclers Association.
