The United States Senate Environment & Public Works Committee held an oversight hearing on September 7th titled:
Implementation of the Drinking Water Investments and Authorizations in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (“Hearing”)
The Hearing was chaired by the Chairman of the Committee, United States Senator Tom Carper of Delaware.
Senator Carper in his opening remarks stated:
- The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (“BIL”) is the single-largest water infrastructure investment in United States history.
- $55 billion is being spent to improve drinking water and wastewater systems.
- Funds expended will include the replacement of lead service lines and address emerging contaminants.
- Additional needs will need to be met.
- A United States Environmental Protection Agency Drinking Water Infrastructure Needs Survey and Assessment estimates that the 20-year national drinking water infrastructure need is $625 billion.
