The Arkansas Natural Resources Commission (“ANRC”) has scheduled a meeting to discuss the development of what is described as a “voluntary, non-regulatory Watershed-Based Management Plan for the Middle White River.”
The meeting is scheduled to be held on November 28th in Batesville, Arkansas, at the University of Arkansas Community College.
The purposes of the meeting are identified as:
- Summarizing the results of a prior meeting held in Calico Rock;
- Present suggested management goals, the costs and benefits of implementing the suggested goals, and additional management practices that could be implemented in the highest ranked subwatersheds;
- Provide information on agencies, organizations, and educational institutions that offer technical and financial assistance to stakeholders interested in voluntarily implementing management practices; and
- Describe the next steps in the planning process.
The process is scheduled to be completed by September 2019. The eventual plan is described as providing a “framework for landowners, communities, and organizations to voluntarily undertake water quality projects in the watershed and improve their ability to solicit and secure funding and assistance from various government and private sources.”
A news release giving the time and location of the meeting can be found here.
