The Arkansas Native Plant Society (“ANPS”) is hosting a webinar on August 4th titled:
Oak Diversity in Arkansas (“Webinar”)
The Webinar will be held on August 4th from 1-2 p.m. (Central Time).
The ANPS program description notes that:
- Oak species are one of the most important clades of woody anglosperms in the northern hemisphere in terms of:
- Species diversity
- Ecological dominance
- Economic value
- Arkansas possesses a significant amount of Oak diversity
- The variety in Arkansas makes it possible to find suitable habitats for many species of Oaks
- More than 25 native species of Oak are found in Arkansas
- A database for all the Oak species and their collection locations can be created/mapped using Geographical Information System
- The knowledge developed makes may inform conservation and management decisions in response to changes in the future environment for Oak forest habitats in Arkansas/North America
The Webinar will be presented by Dr. Suresh Subedi, Assistant Professor of Biology at Arkansas Tech University.
