The Arkansas Oil Marketers Association (“AOMA”) issued a June 27 News Release announcing that the Petroleum Marketers Association of America (“PMAA”) had selected Arkansas Ann Hines for its Distinguished Service Award (“DSA”).
Ann served for many years as AOMA’s Executive Vice President.
PMAA is a Washington, D.C. based federation of 46 state and regional trade associations representing approximately 8,000 independent petroleum marketers nationwide. It represents the interests of wholesalers and retailers of gasoline, diesel, heating oil, lubricants and renewable fuels.
AOMA is a state chapter member of PMAA.
PMAA DSA is considered the organization’s highest honor.
Honorees are chosen by a committee that includes both independent petroleum marketers and PMAA state association executives. Ann is the first woman recipient of the DSA. Iowa Petroleum Marketer, Glenn Haskin, served as Chairman of the 2017 DSA selection committee and is quoted as saying:
“Commitment and dedication are staples that Ann Hines brought to our industry, not only in her 38 years of service in AOMA, but with her guidance and leadership helped PMAA become the voice of the small marketer in her state along with the rest of the country.”
Ann began her service for AOMA in 1974 and was named Executive Vice President of the organization in 1987. She was the third female association executive in PMAA. It is my belief that she was likely at that time one of the only female association executives in Arkansas.”
Ann served on the PMAA Executive Committee for two terms and chaired the PMAA executive conference. She also served on:
- The Petroleum Equipment Institute’s RP900 Committee
- The National Association of Convenience Stores Legislative Affairs Committee
- Arkansas Sheriff’s Youth Ranch Board of Directors.
I have known Ann since the mid-1980’s initially through my service as Assistant General Counsel of PMAA in Washington, D.C. and later working with her as General Counsel of AOMA through her retirement a few years ago. I would not hesitate to classify Ann as the consummate government affairs professional. She has and continues to be well liked, professional and knowledgeable in a variety of areas relevant to her members ranging from environmental issues to unrelated areas such as motor fuel taxes. Her members valued both her leadership and intimate knowledge of the industry and the laws that applied to it. In summary, I am certain that both AOMA’s staff and its members are very pleased that Ann was chosen for this award.
