The State of New York enacted a law that requires certain manufacturers to operate a drug take back program.
The Act signed into law by New York Governor Cuomo is denominated the “Drug Take Back Act” (“Act”).
The Act requires that certain defined manufacturers operate a program that would accept and dispose of covered drugs.
The environmental organization Riverkeeper notes that the law would also require that:
. . . chain pharmacies provide free and convenient drug disposal, while other authorized collectors (e.g., independent pharmacies, local law enforcement) would have the option of participating.
A copy of the Act can be downloaded here.
