The United States Energy Information Administration (“EIA”) issued an October 19th report titled:
The United States Consumed a Record Amount of Renewable Energy in 2019 (“Report”)
The Report states that in 2019 consumption of renewable energy in the United States reached a record 11.5 quadrillion British thermal units (“Btu).
Usage is stated to have totaled 11% of the United States’ energy consumption.
EIA based this Report on a document it developed titled “U.S. Renewable Energy Consumption by Source and Sector.” This is a chart published in the Monthly Energy Review.
The renewable energy sources and relevant percentages are stated to include:
- Wood and Waste – 24%
- Biofuels – 20%
- Wind – 24 %
- Hydropower – 22%
- Solar – 9%
The Report also notes that wind power surpassed hydroelectricity to become the most-consumed source of renewable energy on an annual basis in 2019.
