Southwestern Electric Power Co. (“SWEPCO”) has announced the:
- Purchase of a wind farm under construction in Oklahoma
- Construction of a dedicated 765-kV power line that will convey wind energy to utility customers
SWEPCO has named the endeavor:
Wind Catcher Energy Connection Project (“Project”)
SWEPCO’s customers include 116,000 in the state of Arkansas.
SWEPCO states it will own 70 percent of the $4.5 billion project. It states that the project will save SWEPCO customers more than $5 billion (net to cost) over its 25-year life. It further states that the project is subject to regulatory approvals in the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission must also provide certain approvals.
