The Beaver Watershed Alliance (“BWA”) has announced the dates of April 2-3 for the:
Smart Growth for Water Resources Conference (“Conference”).
Additional sponsors of the Conference include:
- Illinois River Watershed Partnership.
- Arkansas Department of Agriculture.
- ULI Northwest Arkansas.
- Beaver Water District.
- Olsson.
- Northwest Arkansas Council.
BWA states that the Conference is dedicated to:
…addressing the challenges of flooding and stormwater management in Northwest Arkansas (NWA) through the lens of smart growth principles.
Themes identified for the Conference include:
- Flooding and stormwater management in NWA watersheds.
- Workshopping with experts to prepare for anticipated growth and water challenges.
- Collaborative strategies for water management.
- Knowing the tools for water management.
- On-site tours of local demonstrations.
- Economics of water management.
- Community Outreach and Engagement.
Objectives are stated to include:
- Raise Awareness.
- Knowledge Exchange.
- Build Partnerships.
- Capacity Building.
- Action Planning.
- Develop a Shareable Plan.
The Planning Committee includes:
- Leif Kindberg – Illinois River Watershed Partnership.
- Wes Craiglow – Urban Land Institute.
- Karen McCurdy, Kelsey Criswell – FTN/Olsson.
- Rob Smith – NWA Council.
- Trish Ouei – Beaver Water District.
The location and agenda are scheduled to be released in early 2025.
