The Arkansas Department of Health (“DOH”) is offering to provide free “Drinking Water Protection Area” signs to public water systems.
The Engineering Section of DOH describes the offer in the Fall 2020 DOH publication Arkansas Drinking Water Update.
DOH Environmental Health Specialist Kyle Johnson notes in the publication that:
. . . Source Water Protection is an important tool for safeguarding our public drinking water sources. Participation from the local communities greatly enhances Source Water Protection efforts.
Mr. Johnson notes that DOH can provide:
- Reports
- Maps
- Assistance with finding funding
- Assistance with establishing ordinances and resolutions
- Public education
The DOH Engineering Section is offering these signs to any public water system. The purpose is to increase public awareness about drinking water.
Public water systems are required to make application to DOH and contact their local Arkansas Department of Transportation District for approval of the sign locations.
A copy of the article with information regarding application for such signs can be downloaded here.
