The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”) Office of Inspector General (“OIG”) issued an October 21st Project Notification titled:
Statutory Resource Conservation and Recovery Act Inspections Follow Up (“Notification”)

The Notification is transmitted from Renee McGhee-Lenart, Acting Director, Programs, Offices, and Centers Oversight Directorate, OIG Office of Special Review and Evaluation to Barry Breen, EPA Acting Assistant Administrator, Office of Land and Emergency Management and Lawrence Starfield, EPA Assistant Administrator, Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance.
OIG states the evaluation is a “follow up” to the report previously issued titled:
EPA Has Not Met Statutory Requirements for Hazardous Waste Treatment, Storage and Disposal Facility Inspections, but Inspection Rates Are High
See Report No. 16-P-0104.
OIG states the objective of the evaluation is to:
. . . determine the extent to which the EPA has met its statutory requirement to complete required inspections of treatment, storage, and disposal facilities.
OIG plans to conduct the evaluation at EPA’s Office of Land and Emergency Management and Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance.
The benefits of the evaluation are stated to include enhanced protection of human health and the environment by assuring statutory inspections are performed as required.
