The following three federal agencies issued an updated joint “Facts Sheet” denominated Top Cyber Actions for Securing Water Systems (“Facts Sheet”):
- United States Environmental Protection Agency
- Federal Bureau of Investigation
- Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency
The stated purpose of the Facts Sheet is to highlight what are described as top cyber actions that water and wastewater systems can undertake to reduce cyber risk and improve resilience to cyber-attacks.
Included in the Facts Sheet are what as described as free services, resources, and tools to support such actions.
Actions referenced by the Facts Sheet include:
- Reduce Exposure to the Public-Facing Internet
- Conduct Regular Cybersecurity Assessments
- Change Default Passwords Immediately
- Conduct an Inventory of OT/IT Assets
- Develop and Exercise Cybersecurity Incident Response and Recovery Plans
- Backup OT/IT Systems
- Reduce Exposure to Vulnerabilities
- Conduct Cybersecurity Awareness Training
