The organization Clean Water Action announced the release of its second annual “report card” on toxic chemicals in consumer products titled:
Who’s Minding the Store? – A Report Card on Retailer Actions to Eliminate Toxic Chemicals (“Report”)
The other Report sponsors included:
- Mind the Store campaign
- Coalition for a Safe and Healthy Connecticut
The Report focused on retailers. A number of the companies surveyed have Arkansas locations.
Arkansas based Walmart received an A- in the Report. This was an increase from a B+ the previous year.
The Report grades retailers on:
- Policy
- Oversight
- Accountability
- Disclosure
- Action
- Safer Alternatives
- Transparency
- Chemical Footprint
- Third-party Standards
- Joint Announcement
- Continuous Improvement
- Safer Products
- Collaboration
- Impact Investment
The Report indicates that 11 retailers evaluated in both 2016 and 2017 demonstrated substantial improvement in the past year. However, it characterizes two-thirds of the companies surveyed as deficient. Other companies with Arkansas locations and their grades included:
