The United States Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration (“FTA”) announced in a June 26th news release 130 awards totaling nearly $1.7 billion for transit projects in 46 states and territories that are intended to reduce bus emissions.
The City of Jonesboro, Arkansas, has been awarded $1,010,372.
Jonesboro’s funds will be used to buy hybrid buses. The award is intended to allow the city to replace older diesel buses thereby decreasing emissions.
FTA states that the funding originates from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
The projects receiving awards are supported by either of the two following FTA programs:
- Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities Program
- Low-or-No Emission Vehicle Program
The Jonesboro award falls in the category of the Low-or-No Emission program.
