The Energy Storage Association (“ESA”) published a document titled:
ESA Corporate Responsibility Initiative: U.S. Energy Storage Operational Safety Guidelines (“Guidelines”)
The Guidelines are stated to be a product of the ESA Corporate Responsibility Initiative.
ESA describes the Guidelines as providing energy storage businesses and users a compendium of:
- Codes
- Standards
- Additional guidelines
Their intent is to allow businesses/users to plan for and mitigate potential hazards.
The purpose of the Guidelines is stated to be two-fold:
- guide users to current codes and standards that support the safe design and planning, operations, and decommissioning of grid-connected energy storage systems, and
- present primary recommendations that can be utilized in hazard reduction and mitigation.
Sections of the Guidelines include:
- Designing and Planning for Hazard Mitigation
- Operational Hazard Mitigation
- Decommissioning
- Other Non-Code Initiatives
Sections addressing references and resources are included.
A copy of the Guidelines can be downloaded here.
