President-elect Trump has selected Mr. Lee Zeldin to serve as the Administrator of the United States Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”) during his administration.
Zeldin served from 2015 to 2023 as a United States Congressman from New York’s First District.
The EPA Administrator is nominated by the President and must be confirmed by the United States Senate. Starting with President Clinton’s administration, the EPA Administrator has been a member of the Cabinet. Mr. Zeldin would be the 17th Administrator.
Zeldin is a native of Suffolk County, New York and graduated from the State University of New York at Albany. He is also a graduate of Albany Law School.
Military service included the United States Army from 2003 to 2007. He joined the United States Army Reserve in 2007. His current rank is Lieutenant Colonel.
Committee assignments in the United States Congress included:
- Committee on Foreign Affairs.
- Subcommittee on the Middle East and North Africa.
- Subcommittee on Terrorism, Nonproliferation, and Trade.
- Committee on Financial Services.
- Subcommittee on Housing and Insurance.
- Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations.
- Subcommittee on Terrorism and Illicit Finance.
Two of his environmental-related caucus memberships included:
- Congressional Estuary Caucus.
- Conservative Climate Caucus.
Diametrically opposed favorability ratings from his time in the United States Congress include:
- Heritage Action for America – 78%
- League of Conservation Voters – 14%
The EPA also has 10 Regional Administrators that will be chosen. The State of Arkansas is in EPA Region 6, which also includes:
- Oklahoma.
- Louisiana.
- Texas.
- New Mexico.
