The U.S. Geological Survey (“USGS”) announced on December 14th that its Water Availability and Use Science Program (“WAUSP”) is offering a two-year cooperative agreement to State water resource agencies that collect water-use data to participate in the Water Use Data and Research (“WUDR”) program. See Funding Opportunity No. G23AS00463.
The stated purpose is to:
- Support state water resource agencies in the collection and reporting of water-use data for the WUDR program
- Address the United States Department of Interior’s Secretarial Priorities
The following funding figures are provided by USGS:
- Estimated total program funding - $1.5 million
- Award ceiling - $125,000
- Award Floor - $24,000
The closing date for applications is April 13, 2023. There is no cost sharing or matching requirement.
The stated priorities of the funding opportunity include:
- Improve the collection process or quality assurance of water use data
- Improve the transfer of water use data to USGS
- Improve site-specific water use data for irrigation, or industrial use categories
- Improve site specific water use data for public supply
- Conduct studies that develop methods or coefficients
