The Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources (“Subcommittee”) of the United States House of Representatives Committee on Natural Resources is holding an oversight hearing today entitled:
Assessing Innovative and Alternative Uses of Coal
Witnesses scheduled to testify include:
- Mr. Michael Klein, Vice President – Lighthouse Resources, South Jordan, Utah
- Mr. Julian McIntyre, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Arq, United Kingdom
- Mr. Randall Atkins,Chief Executive Officer, Ramaco Carbon, Sheridan, Wyoming
- Mr. Vernon Haltom, Executive Director, Coal River Mountain Watch, Naoma, West Virginia
A hearing memorandum prepared by the Majority Subcommittee staff provides information on market trends for coal and notes exports to international markets for uses such as metallurgical coal and steel production. The memorandum states the hearing will review:
. . . how coal will continue to be a vital energy source in meeting the world’s electricity needs and the range of innovative technologies and applications being used and developed for this abundant domestic resource.
