Legislation was introduced into the Wyoming legislature that would prohibit the placement of a wind turbine blade in whole or in part in:
. . . mixed municipal solid waste, a solid waste management facility, commercial solid waste management facility or a commercial waste incineration or disposal facility in Wyoming.
The legislation is denominated House Bill No. HB0217.
The objective is to mandate the recycling or repurposing of wind turbine blades and prohibit their disposal in landfills. The legislation requires that the blades be delivered to a facility that reuses, recycles, brakes down, or repurposes them.
A violation of the legislation would constitute a misdemeanor, potentially generating a fine of up to $1,000 for each improperly disposed turbine blade.
The bill has been referred to the Wyoming House’s Legislature Standing Committee on Minerals, Business and Economic Development.
A copy of the legislation can be downloaded here.
